History of our Building
SAYUU is located to the east of Kyoto City, near Phylosopher’s Walk (Tetsugakuno-michi).
Our building has about 120 years history, designed by Chokunyu Tanomura (1814-1907).
He was one of the famous Japanese painters and had lived here in his later years.
His original design of this building and garden describe the view of Sencha (Japanese tea) world.
The traditional architectural styles use a beautiful combination of white wall, wood and iron materials,and they are quite unique.
You can feel Japanese culture all the time.

Chokunyu Tanomura (1814-1907)
He was one of famous Japanese painters and founded Kyoto Prefectual School of Painting in Kyoto Imperial Garden. This school was the forerunner of Kyoto City University of Arts.
